Weir and Sons Exclusive 1916 Commemorative Medals

Weir and Sons Exclusive 1916 Commemorative Medals
Weir and Sons have designed exclusive medals to honour the Centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising. These medals take on a more soft approach to other medals on the market as the back of the medal is designed by an 11 year old. These exclusive medals by Weir and Sons are unique as they are hallmarked unlike other medals. The front of the medal shows the General Post Office, on O’Connell Street, in stylised form, with flames leaping from the building, representing the men and women of the Rising, who fought and gave their lives for their country and independence. The reverse side of the medal was designed by eleven year old Abby Redmond from East Wall, Dublin, her design was chosen as part of an in-store Weir and Sons employees children competition. It honours the children who died during the Easter Rising. It shows children at play with the sun rising, representing the dawn and hope of a new nation. The stars represent the children who died, a star for each child, for they too gave their lives for their country. Each medal is presented in an elegant gift box with a limited edition signed certificate. The Gold and Silver medals will be struck with a full set of Irish hallmarks, including the Easter Rising Centenary Commemorative hallmark and the date letter for 2016. The bronze medal comes in a brushed-antique finish. The wording encircling the medal is taken from the Proclamation of The Irish Republic. The gold medal are produced in 9ct gold, the Silver medals are produced in Irish silver and the bronze medals are produced in precious bronze, the medal collection is limited edition. The medals are designed and available exclusively from Weir and Sons.
