Introducing the Chopard Mille Miglia GTS Collection
At the 2015 Baselworld watch and jewellery show, Chopard presented the new Mille Miglia GTS Collection which replaces the GT XL and the GMT Chrono Models. Entirely redesigned, with Automatic and Power Control versions equipped with in-house movements, the new collection will delight vintage car racing enthusiasts.
The Collection is composed of the Mille Miglia line; Classic and GTS both featuring models with a vintage or retro touch while remaining sporty, the G.P.M.H line inspired by Formula 1 from the 1970’s and The Superfast line, which embraces contemporary yet sophisticated design.
The Mille Miglia became the world’s most prestigious classic car endurance race and today is synonymous with exclusivity since only 450 handpicked teams can take part. The race remains a dream event attracting impressive crowds over the four days it takes place. In 1988, Chopard became the official timekeeper for Mille Miglia. Co-President Karl-Friedrich has always had a keen passion for collecting historical cars and participates in the race every year. Chopard first introduced a mechanical sports watch featuring a design directly inspired by the classical cars competing in Mille Miglia and ever since have annually produced another model.
The Mille Miglia is a pillar of the Classic Racing Collection. It is comprised of the aesthetic codes of the classics but reinterpreted with the design features of later contemporary models. Chopard displays its sporting spirit by presenting an annual limited edition to mark the latest edition of the race. In addition to its stainless steel case and black dial, the iconic watch is distinguished by its signature red arrow, oversized numerals and rubber strap patterned like the tread of the 1960’s Dunlop racing tyres. The Chopard Mille Milgia Collection is powered with Calibre 01.01-C and Chopard Calibre 01.08-C which were entirely developed, designed and assembled within the workshops of Fleurier Ebauches.
The Mille Miglia GTS is comprised of three vintage-look models: the GTS Power Control and the GTS Chrono. The first two are housed in a 43mm case with a sapphire crystal caseback and Chopard in-house mechanical movement. The GTS Chrono has a 44mm case and a screwed in caseback engraved with the race logo. The three models are interpreted in three versions, a stainless steel case and rubber or metal bracelet or an 18K gold case fastened on a signature rubber strap. The dial font, in keeping with the Italian vintage style, is masculine and broad. The Mille Milgia arrow incorporates the date window in the style of racing car numbers. The large diameter screw-lock crown is inspired by the petrol tank caps on vintage cars. The lugs feature a new shape flattened on top to ensure optimal comfort. On the GTS Chrono model, the design of the counters is directly inspired by the dashboards of historical cars and the piston shaped pushers feature a non-slip grip reminiscent of brake pedals.
Speed, technique and a spirit of adventure are the values bound up with the world of racing and likewise beating at the heart of the watches in the Chopard Mille Miglia Collection.
