Once Upon A Time... | The Cinderella Ring

if you’re looking for a ring that’s more than just a piece of jewellery, this innovative new piece is just the ticket. Designed exclusively by the in-house team at Weir & Sons, this exquisite diamond ring comes in a custom wooden box, secured with a platinum and diamond set lock and key. Only when the lock is opened is the ring revealed, creating a moment of theatre that would make for the perfect proposal.

The inspiration for the ring came from a desire to create something of a Cinderella story. “I had an idea for a ring, but unlike other rings, this was to be a one-off,” says Andrew Meehan, Jewellery Workshop Manager at Weir & Sons. “The plan was to do something unique, to cover it in the best colour diamonds and make it sparkle like nothing else. The idea of the glass slipper only fitting that one person was magical". 

The main stone of the ring is a 2-carat round cut D-coloured GIA-certified stone, with 104 D-coloured brilliant cut diamonds set around the band. The ring itself is platinum, with the total diamond weight coming in at 2.57 carats. 

The craftsmanship that went into the design didn't end with the ring. Working with the Donegal furniture designer Ciaran McGill, they created the wooden presentation box and then the platinum and diamond set key, which also comes with a platinum chain so it can later be worn as a pendant. 

This innovative piece is a one-off with only one available here at Weir & Sons.

"If we don't do it, nobody will," says Andrew. "There is a beauty in the idea itself, and in pushing boundaries."
